Avocet cigar box guitars are broadly grouped into model types just like their six string counterparts to help focus on what best matches your requirements. You can click over images in the shop section to enlarge them and view specific descriptions of each instrument. However, here is a general description of the model types.

EXPRESSIONS: Our most individualised models, based on large plain-timber boxes that we paint or varnish. They feature a 24.75 inch (628.65 mm) scale fretboard, various humbucker style pickups and fully adjustable metal bridges.

ELEXTRA: Based on larger paper covered or (already) painted boxes. Scale length, pickups and bridges are similar in specification to those of the Expressions model.

STANDARD ELECTRIC: When we started making cigar box guitars we decided to use a shortened scale length of 600 mm for the many smaller boxes as this seemed the right balance. They are fitted with our own design compensated bridge and saddle and rails type humbucker.

COMPACT / TRAVELLER: This guitar has an overall length of approximately 750 mm but a scale length of 600 mm. It has a single coil pickup, compensated bridge and comes complete with its own gig bag. This guitar is made to a size and a price but the cost saving is in the efficiency of it’s design rather than compromise in quality.

FRETLESS: Although not as readily accepted in Australia as in the U.S. we are seeing a growing interest in this type of guitar, which we offer in various configurations.

ACOUSTIC: Acoustic cigar box guitars are our most interesting builds as the construction of the guitar has more influence on the resulting sound than in a guitar with a magnetic pickup.
