Avocet cigar box guitars are grouped into model types (just like their six string counterparts) to accomodate the requirements of diverse music genres and playing styles. Click over the images in the shop section to view specific descriptions of each instrument. However, here is a general description of the model types.

EXPRESSIONS: Our most individualised models, based on large plain-timber boxes that we paint or varnish. They feature a 24.75 inch (628.65 mm) scale fretboard, various humbucker style pickups and fully adjustable metal bridges.

ELEXTRA: Based on larger paper covered or (already) painted boxes. Scale length, pickups and bridges are similar in specification to those of the Expressions model.

STANDARD ELECTRIC: When we started making cigar box guitars we decided to use a shortened scale length of 600 mm for the many smaller boxes as this seemed the right balance. They are fitted with our (own design) compensated bridge and saddle and rails type humbucker.

ELECTRIC LITE: Formerly described as a compact or travel guitar this guitar is now officially named our Electric Lite model. Its overall length is approximately 750 mm wth a scale length of 600 mm. It has a single coil pickup, compensated bridge and comes complete with a gig bag. Although made to a size and price the cost saving is achieved through efficiency in design rather than compromise in quality. Being light in weight and fitted with the popular acoustic sound hole type pickup this name ticked the boxes for this quirky little guitar.

FRETLESS: Although not as readily accepted in Australia as in the U.S. we are seeing a growing interest in this type of guitar, which we offer in various configurations.

ACOUSTIC: Acoustic cigar box guitars are our most demanding builds. They present an intriguing and never ending challenge in pursuit of quality sound, depending almost entirely on the construction of the guitar, not just a magnetic pickup.
